It is with utter shock and outrage that the Land Party was witness to private security once again abusing their power and using guns to remove black children from a public space in Hermanus in the Western Cape.
During a Land Party Central Committee meeting on Sunday 24 February at the old harbour in Hermanus, we witnessed private security agents from Fidelity trying to knock small black children over with their unmarked vehicle by swerving and skidding in circles in an attempt to chase them away from enjoying the water on a hot day. This vehicle then proceeded to the jetty where a few more children were playing. They climbed out of the vehicle carrying unholstered assault rifles pointed at the children, ordering them to leave. The harbour master was accompanying them.
We immediately intervened to protect the traumatised and terrified children who had done nothing wrong. They were children playing happily and peacefully. There is NEVER a reason to point guns at children...EVER.
The harbour master was the one who contacted the armed and aggressive private security to remove the children. She condoned and defended the use of guns and dogs to terrify these harmless, innocent children and verbally attacked us when we tried to defend them. Although the verbal exchange became heated, nobody laid a hand on the harbour master, but we are horrified and disgusted by her behaviour and actions against the children playing at the harbour. This is not the protocol that any harbour master is allowed to follow and we will be following up on this as we have since heard other allegations against her with regard to her abuse of children at the harbour, including stealing their clothes. She is now attempting to lay charges against the Land Party for assault with no evidence or witnesses. It is embarrassing for her to go to such lengths to lie and to try and discredit us when she is the one who has in fact grossly abused the rights of children.
It is also interesting to note that she has a relationship with the Chief Whip of the ANC, who has a clear agenda against the Land Party. We will not remain silent while children from Zwelihle, Hawston and Mount Pleasant are abused and threatened with guns by private security and friends of the ANC. This is unacceptable and it will be dealt with seriously. This is not an apartheid state. This is not Orania. Black and brown children should be given equal respect and access to public spaces without fear of being threatened at gun point.
