Imagine waiting for 9 years to find out who was responsible for your husband’s death. Imagine there is a commission of inquiry into your husband’s death and a report is produced outlining what needs to be done for some justice to be served. Imagine that report is ignored and nothing is done.
The fact that nothing, absolutely nothing, has been done for the families that have been left behind is criminal in itself. Nobody has paid for this crime, nobody has provided any relief for the families who lost their loved ones. Nobody has eased the burden placed on the families, or even attempted to.
For 9 years widows have lived with uncertainty and injustice.
For 9 years children have been growing up without their fathers.
In 9 years the President has not even had the decency to visit the families.
Instead, the government and SAPS continue to use their Apartheid strategies to “control” citizens who have been left no option but to protest in order for their voices to be heard. Why are the President and his government so quiet? Why have they done nothing for the people of Marikana? Why do they continue to use brute force on their citizens instead of listening to them?
Because they don’t give a damn. Because they will do everything in their power to protect the interests of their puppet masters. It’s all about the money and protecting their investments!
Commissions of Inquiry in South Africa have been proven to be a waste of money. Nothing constructive ever comes out of them. They are another ticked box. They open wounds and pick at them without offering any remedy. Look at the TRC, look at the Nel Commission, Arms Commission, Donen Commission, Hefer Commission; listen to the President and Zondo’s banter at the State Capture inquiry, it sounds like they’re at a tea party.
LAND Party wants the people of Marikana, of Phoenix, of South Africa, to know that we will not rest until the President and the ANC are divested of their powers and justice is served.
