It is with sadness that we have to report the attempts by the ANC to threaten the lives of our families and derail our growing movement. Last night (23 March), an ANC member living in Zwelihle, Hermanus attacked Land Party Chief Leader Gcobani Ndzongana’s family while they were alone at home. Rocks were thrown with such force at the house that they broke through the roof, leaving Gcobani’s family traumatised and fearing for their lives.
The perpetrator is known by the Land Party as a staunch ANC supporter and a relative of an ANC councillor in the area. He has thankfully been arrested.
The incident was triggered when a group of ANC members, along with the perpetrator of the crime, were insulting and threatening Land Party members at the taxi rank in Zwelihle. They called female Land Party supporters prostitutes, and made threats to those coming from the Eastern Cape that they will be sent back if they do not vote ANC. They also claimed that it is the ANC that brought them to the Western Cape and that they will be persecuted if they turn their back on ANC.
Other members from the Land Party have also reported incidents believed to have been committed by political parties in the area. The tyres of two Land Party leaders were slashed just before the Land Party Manifesto Launch on 21 March and the home of one of these leaders is being watched by two very large drones. It must be noted that a young child also lives in this home and is also traumatised by this harassment. Many Land Party leaders’ phones have also been hacked and jammed, making communication extremely difficult over the last few months.
It is very sad that the ANC and other political parties feel it necessary to stoop so low as to scare babies and children because they feel so threatened by the Land Party’s growing strength.
We appeal to our supporters to remain calm and to report any such intimidation and harassment to the police immediately. We will not allow ANC to scare or terrorise our members, our children and our families. We are dealing with these matters very seriously and have taken measures to protect our communities from such criminal political intolerance.
