LAND Nominate Major General Nonhlanhla Zulu For Mendi Decoration For Bravery

It was only seven months ago that South Africans faced, knowingly or in absolute ignorance, a very real threat on civil discourse. In the build up to narratives speculating and anticipating civil war erupting, following the court ordered arrest of former President Jacob Zuma, our politicians and heads of National departments exposed their ineptitude to the actual job required of the offices currently held.

When the Constitutional court, the ultimate authority ordered a former President's arrest, our police commissioner and minister fueled factionalism in their initial public statements, indicating opposition to the court order. This concluded further speculation over the deployment of special forces to honour the court order. While heads of state departments and the former President released divisive public statements, egging on tribalism, supporters of the different factions within the ruling party were clear about engaging force/violence to see their respective political positions endure.

The eventual surrender and imprisonment of former President Jacob Zuma, was realised by none of our national leaders' efforts. Instead it was a former teacher who joined SAPS in 2003 and current Major General Nonhlanhla Zulu. Major General Zulu managed to reach out and establish negotiations with former President Zuma leading to his handing himself over to be imprisoned, on account of the the court order against him.

Not only did Major General Nonhlanhla Zulu manage to instill the dignity due to former presidents, she also ensured the credibility of the courts of SA remain. Where so called successful and established men failed their responsibilities as national leaders, courage and conviction eminated from this brave woman.

It is with this reference that LAND Party endeavours her nomination for The Mendi Decoration for Bravery, category 3. Her display of selflessness and leadership is every bit worthy of this recognition.
