The Land Party calls for government departments to allocate funds to the South African Broadcasting Services. All government departments must pay an equal amount to the SABC to use and sustain the public broadcaster. The LAND Party also asks the government to ensure that there is no SABC station or office that is renting from private landlords and that the public broadcaster receives free water and free electricity to save money..
The LAND Party asks the government to allow the private sector to give donations to the public broadcaster and all private donors to be able to claim these contributions from their tax. The Land Party further asks the government to cut salaries of cabinet ministers in half for a period of 12 months and channel those funds to the SABC, to run its day to day affairs.
The LAND Party believes by doing these things, the government will not only prevent workers from being retrenched but also allow vacant posts to be filled. The Land Party also calls for the defunding of municipal law enforcement departments in the Western Cape and Metro Police. The public servants can be absorbed into SAPS and the large sums of money this will save can be redirected by Treasury to fund the public broadcaster.
The LAND Party believes that there are a lot of measures that can be taken to save SABC workers from retrenchment. There is no way that the SABC workers can be allowed to become victims of poor governance and administration. The LAND Party asks the government to prioritize the SABC in its decision making. It can not be tolerated that workers become casualties of the maladministration and inept leadership of the ruling party.
