The Land Party urges the President of the United States of America to refrain from interfering in Cuban politics. We also stand with the 184 countries who voted for the current embargo to be lifted immediately and call on President Biden to do this as a matter of urgency.
We call on the people of Cuba to be patient and to give their president, Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the opportunity to implement the reforms he has promised. Whilst we completely understand the people’s frustrations and hardships, we urge them to remember that their suffering is a direct result of the 29-year embargo by the USA and that their new president has only been in office for 3 months.
The USA must stop interfering in other countries and pay attention to what is going on within its own borders. Cuba is in the process of political development and this process needs to be played out in Cuba by Cubans. The interference and propaganda by the government of the United States of America will only impede this process as the negative effects of their embargo have already beenproven.
South Africa must send the Cuban doctors, mechanics, engineers, and teachers home to care for their own people. South Africa is not in a position to be helping Cuba when it cannot even help itself.
Land Party calls on the government of Cuba to exercise maximum tolerance when dealing with protestors and to not allow the external forces at play to pressurize them into jeopardizing their relationship with their people by resorting to the imperialistic tactics of oppression and the violation of human rights.
The embargo must, as decided upon by 184 nations, be lifted immediately. The current actions of the USA in the name of democracy are counter-productive and do nothing except violate the human rights of Cuban citizens. END
