We would like to congratulate Cyril Ramaphosa on his inauguration as the President of South Africa. We trust he will serve this country with integrity, passion and pragmatism, and we wish him all the best!
After our Central Committee meeting in Hermanus yesterday, we are pleased to announce that the Land Party has found a new sense of purpose and has forged plans to grow the organisation tremendously towards our National Congress in October.
In light of the recent turmoil with a number of power-mongers causing factions and displaying gross misconduct and ill-discipline, the Central Committee and Politburo of the organisation has agreed that the expulsion of these members was necessary to cleanse the organisation of corruption and personal agendas. We have also taken a decision that the way forward for the organisation is to disband all provincial and regional structures entirely to avoid gatekeeping, populism and factionalism.
The former National Coordinator, Maxwell Mothlake; former Politburo member, Tonic Manchidi; former Head of Communication, Buntu Gwija, and former ordinary members Masibulele Zitha and Nondumiso Zwane were officially expelled from the Land Party based on the following reasons, but not limited to:
1. Tarnishing the reputation and image of the Land Party.
2. Sowing division and distrust amongst party members.
3. Disrespecting and undermining the authority of the Chief Leader.
4. Disobeying lawful instructions.
5. Misrepresenting the Land Party publicly.
6. Violating the membership declaration in several respects including the confidentiality and loyalty prescripts.
7. Gross misconduct, unconstitutional behaviour and fraud.
The Chief Leader of the Party, in consultation with the Land Party Politburo and Central Committee members, took the decision to terminate the probationary membership of these transgressors with immediate effect on 22 May 2019 in terms of Article 7 of the LAND Party Constitution:
In the event that a probationary member has failed to perform his or her obligations or to meet the criteria for full membership, his or her probationary membership shall be revoked.
Also tabled on our agenda for the Land Party Central Committee meeting yesterday was a discussion around numerous allegations against former Western Cape Premier Candidate, Loyiso Nkohla, and a vote was going to be taken to remove him from the organisation. Nkohla was informed that this was the case and quickly tendered his resignation in the media before the Central Committee meeting.
Among the allegations against Nkohla are sexual harassment against one of our lesbian members, threats of violence and defamation of character against the Chief Leader as well as the white and Cape Malay members of the organisation, theft, fraud, self-promotion and populism over the needs of the poor, illegally receiving funds from Ace Magashule, working with Alan Winde from the DA, fraudulently taking and keeping funds from donors for personal use in the name of the Party without disclosing the information to the Party, causing factions and division in the Party, failure to deliver votes or any value to the Party from his campaign as Premier Candidate, and overall sabotage of the Party for his own selfish gains.
The spurious and deceitful claims he is making in the media against the Chief Leader will also be dealt with decisively as there is no truth to them and amounts to nothing more than the actions of a disgruntled, corrupt and bitter man looking for revenge. The only true statement is about the court case where the Chief Leader is charged with incitement of violence related to the Zwelihle uprising in Hermanus, for which he spent three months in jail for standing up for his community. This is public knowledge, and Nkohla was well aware of these charges too. We are confident that the charges will soon be dropped. The Land Party Chief Leader has since opened a case of crimen injuria and defamation of character with SAPS against Nkohla and Vuyani Fotoyi for spreading false rape allegations.
With regard to the allegations of destroying the homes of ANC and EFF members in Marikana, Zwelihle, the Land Party can confirm that an ANC counsillor paid these people R200 each to lie to the media in order to tarnish the reputation of the Land Party. The 38 year old female Land Party member that was falsely arrested for these crimes was never charged as there was no evidence. We maintain that we had no reason to attack other political parties in the area as we came out victorious in those voting districts and we understand that the ANC was very bitter about their loss in these districts for the first time ever.
The Land Party will not allow populists and power-mongers to use poor people for their own selfish agendas, and we hope that this is the end of Nkohla’s political career and shamelessly false self-promotion as an “activist” for poor people. We are glad to have cleansed the Party of all such individuals who have exposed themselves now after not receiving positions of power.
We are very happy to announce that in the Land Party’s Central Committee meeting yesterday, we appointed a new National task team that will be responsible for mobilising members for the National Congress. The only bodies that are recognised in the organisation going forward are the Politburo, the Central Committee and the newly appointed task team.
The task team comprises the following people:
Chairperson: Theron Mqhu, with the assistance of Mimi Zenzile
Secretary: Lumka Maqubela, with the assistance of Phumla Bulawa
Organiser: Ke Mo-Afrika Mmakau, with the assistance of Lordwick Mamale
Mobiliser: Nomawethu Lamani, with the assistance of Ayanda Lethaba
Admin: Nathi Prins, with the assistance of Nhlanhla Kubeka and Vanessa Swanepoel
Fundraising: Siyabulela Notwala, with the assistance of Fatima Saaif and Leandra Da Silva
We would like to thank the media for attending and for witnessing the start of our new chapter towards our National Congress in October and the 2021 local elections.
