Land Party will commemorate the 7th anniversary of Marikana massacre. 34 mine workers were brutally slain by Jacob Zuma for demanding better wages. These miners were brutally killed to protect the business interests of Zuma comrade of the current president of South Africa, president Cyril Ramaphosa.
Under the current democratic dispensation it is clear that black people's lives do not matter. Black people are are still massacred under the pretext of democracy and freedom. The sad part of the Marikana massacre is that black government presided over the killing of black people.
The Land Party views the Marikana massacre as an ethnic cleansing. The majority of those who were murdered, if not all, were predominantly isiXhosa speaking people.
To many South African people, this was an extremely traumatic event. It was a special kind of nightmare, because it revived images of massacres by the state in the old apartheid era, with one brutal difference – this time it was predominantly black policemen, with black senior officers working for black politicians, who were doing the shooting.
The Land Party will be honoring these fallen heroes by naming one of the informal settlements in Hermanus after the place where they were killed - Marikana. We will also have a moment of silence and prayers at Marikana informal settlement in Hermanus at 18h00 on Friday.
We call for justice for the people of Marikana, we call for the political leaders who presided over the killing of these innocent mine workers who were simply protesting for better wages and better living to be held to account.
We call for Zuma to be arrested for crimes against humanity. Zuma failed to bring justice to the widows and the poor people of Marikana. Zuma must account for presiding over the killings of innocent mine workers. Zuma must account for presiding over ethnic cleansing of Xhosa people in Marikana. Zuma must account for the deaths of these South Africans who died for demanding a living wage.
Zuma must know he has blood on his hands and that the ghosts of the Marikana massacre will continue to haunt him and his comrades. We call on the people of South Africa to unite and demand justice and accountability for the actions of the political leaders and the police responsible for the Marikana massacre. If we remain divided, black people will continue to be killed like animals, particularly those who are challenging the current capitalist system and the status quo.
The 34 heroes of Marikana will forever remain in our hearts and we will honour their spirit at all times in our quest for a living wage for all South Africans.
Please join us on Friday 16th August at 6pm at Marikana informal settlement to pay tribute to these heroes.
