The Land Party stands in solidarity with our brothers and sisters from Cosatu today to protect the jobs of South Africans and to demand that job creation become a priority for government.
The people that keep this country ticking deserve respect and they deserve to have well-paid jobs and they deserve to have access to more jobs in order to live a life with dignity and to provide adequately for their families.
Land Party agrees with Cosatu that President Cyril Ramaphosa's recent announcement to privatise Eskom is completely unacceptable. The government instead needs to act swiftly and urgently against the high unemployment rate, which stands at 27.1% currently. We cannot afford to have more unemployed people become a burdensome statistic in this country.
We echo and fully support Cosatu's Mike Shingange sentiments: "Our strike countrywide today is not making any unreasonable demands, it can't be unreasonable to fight for your job, it can't be unreasonable to say as a country let's come up with ideas to create more jobs. None of our demands are unreasonable. We cannot allow ourselves to sit back and be retrenched."
Let us stand firmly together and fight for our rights as contributing citizens of this country. The people of this country hold the power and let us not ever forget that!
Thank you!
