LAND PARTY PRESS RELEASE: Zwelihle Political Unrest

The Land Party dismisses and strongly condemns any allegations being made against them with regard to intimidation against another political party currently campaigning in Zwelihle, Hermanus.

It has come to our attention that a number of residents of the Zwelihle community have become extremely angered and upset by the campaigning of a particular political party within the Zwelihle location on 19 and 20 January. The Land Party cannot take responsibility for the actions of embittered and fed up residents who have been fighting for a better life for the last 24 years with no results.

The Land Party has been participating in an intensive political workshop over the last two days in preparation for their media briefing in Johannesburg on Friday 25 January. It is not in the Land Party’s interest, nor is it to their benefit to incite violence or cause trouble in any sphere during this critical time. The Land Party remains entirely focused on their goal of contesting the 2019 elections.

It is interesting to note that it was the day after the Land Party publicly announced their registration as a political party with the IEC that they are facing false allegations of intimidation in an attempt to try and discredit the Party’s good name.

We remain steadfastly behind empowering the people of South Africa, but we do not condone unnecessary and futile unrest or violence. The founders of the Land Party have sacrificed their lives to ensure that people’s democracy, fairness, equality and love for all people is always upheld, and we will never stray from those guiding principles.

We trust that the issues and charges brought against the Land Party by this particular political party will be dismissed by the authorities without any merit as they have been brought against us disingenuously and without any proof or evidence.

The Land Party is committed to participating in the elections with full respect for, and adherence to, terms and conditions set by the IEC to ensure free and fair elections.
