LAND Party Salutes the Youth who marched to Stellenbosch

LAND Party supports the young South Africans who have spent 24 days walking from Johannesburg to the birthplace and the bastion of white monopoly capital in South Africa. We salute your courageous action take to address the issue that lies at the core of all of our country’s problems with the people who perpetuate them on a daily basis.

LAND Party urges the Stellenbosch mafia to engage with these youth rather than send their lapdogs in to blast them with teargas and bullets. For this group of young people to walk all this way shows the desperation of the majority of South Africans. The least that the Stellenbosch boys can do is to listen to them.

LAND Party calls for an Economic Indaba that includes all community leaders, not just government and their puppet masters who live in Stellenbosch and play in Hermanus. We need everybody to be involved in devising a new way forward for our economy and our country.

LAND Party calls on Minister Cele to immediately release the protesters who have been arrested for contravening the COVID-19 regulations. Not one ANC member was arrested for doing the same at the funeral of the late Andrew Mlangeni, teargas and rubber bullets were not used to disperse that crowd either, why is it being used here? What is the difference between these young South Africans and the South Africans those that attended the funeral? Inequality.

You simply have to look at the commentary on social media for proof that Stellenbosch is the epitome of all that is wrong with South Africa. The racism, lack of empathy, and self-centred responses of people to this peaceful protest action shows that Apartheid is still alive and well in South Africa.

To all those who constantly cry about violent protests, know that it is nothing compared with the institutional violence experienced by the majority of our citizens every single day, day in and day out, generation after generation. You are the very reason that these young people chose to walk from Johannesburg to Stellenbosch.
