Over 1 500 residents have taken to the streets of Botriver to protest against service delivery issues. The N2 between Botriver and Sir Lowry’s Pass Village has been closed in both directions due to the protest. It is not known how long the N2 would be closed and motorists are advised to take the R44 Kleinmond coastal route to rejoin the N2 at Gordon’s Bay.
There is a strong presence of POPS and other law enforcement agencies on the scene and no arrests have been made. The situation has been described as “dangerous” by Cape Traffic chief, Kenny Africa.
Members of the Land Party visited the area on Thursday 28 March in a show of solidarity and to offer support to the protesters. We are also in communication with community members daily to help resolve the situation.
Another service delivery protest in Hornlee sees the closure of the N2 between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay.
