Overstrand 2021 Elections Results Analysis

Registered Voters: 59,979 Turnout: 58,14% Valid Ballots: 103,498

Here are the final results and seat allocations for the elections:

LAND Party won Overstrand Ward 6 by 344 votes and is proud to announce Comrade Lennox Bandeza as the new councillor for this ward and Kholiswa Kholie Krilakazi Ngqandana will take up the PR position.

ANC won Ward 12 back from LAND Party by just 54 votes.

Ward 5 had an extremely low voter turnout compared to other wards in Zwelihle (37%)which is probably due to the many people who were turned away from voting in that ward despite having voted there in at least 2 previous elections. The ANC won by 502 votes.

The voter turnout in the poorer areas of the Overstrand was considerably lower (30-40%) than the wealthier areas. This was more than likely due to the torrential rain experienced on the day.

This is the most representative that the Overstrand Municipality has ever been and LAND Party will continue to work hard to ensure that the poor and working-class have more equal representation in the Overstrand municipal council.

LAND Party is very excited about the results in Hawston where it took 2% of the vote after just 4 weeks of campaigning in the area. Many supporters do not have ID documents and were not registered to vote. With more time we believe that LAND Party will have a major impact in that ward.
